King College Prep Receives Donation of 925 Graphing CalculatorsKing College Prep is pleased to announce the awarding of 925 graphing calculators to the mathematics department. The mathematics department and King administration submitted an application to receive the advanced calculators during the fall of 2009. The school received word in late December that its application was accepted and that the calculators would be donated to the school. The King College Prep math teachers, and the department's interns from Michigan State University, participated in training on how to use the new calculators in the classroom in December. The new calculators have a USB port that allows teachers and students to display the work on the screen through the LCD projectors mounted in the ceilings of all King classrooms. The teachers were very impressed with the new calculators and how user-friendly they are. The calculators are approved for use on the ACT, display fractions in traditional form, and are smaller than most graphing calculators. They look like mini-laptops. The calculators will be issued to King students like textbooks and instruments. The plan is for each student to be issued the same calculator throughout their four years at King. Juniors will receive their calculators soon so that they can become familiar with the device in time for the ACT/Prairie State Achievement Exam in April. All students will be issued graphing calculators for the 2010-2011 school year. King College Prep extends its gratitude to Casio for this generous donation. These calculators will help strengthen the math, science, and engineering programs at King. CLICK HERE FOR THE PROCEDURES AND RESPONSIBILITIES FORM TO BE RETURNED TO YOUR MATH TEACHER. |
