A life-long learner, Ms. McDowell has worked for the Chicago Public Schools since 2002. She has been an English teacher at King since 2004. She believes that teenagers are funny people and being a part of their transition to adulthood makes it all worthwhile.

Ms. McDowell is also the Service Learning Coach and a Teacher Representative on King's Local School Council.

She served in the U.S. Air Force before going to college where she majored in English and Anthropology, covering her interests in culture and literature.

A fascination with Vietnam led her to a two year teaching position in Hanoi from 2000-2002. Prior to that she taught at the University of Northern Iowa and the University of Memphis where she was also a research assistant in Anthropology.

Her daughter Hannah is currently a student at the University of Illinois in Champaign.

Ms. McDowell is an avid White Sox fan and enjoys reading, writing and eating Thai and Vietnamese food, camping, hiking, sleeping, watching 24 and hanging out with her friends.
