Welcome to www.kingcollegeprep.org, the official website of King College Prep. 

The news items, pictures, event listings, and other information on this site will give you a glimpse into the life and programs of King College Prep.  If you are already an active member of the King community, I hope this site will help keep you connected.  If you are new to King, I invite you to also visit our school to learn more about our classes, activities, dedicated faculty, and talented students.  

King College Prep is one of Chicago's strong selective enrollment programs. King will graduate its seventh graduating class in June of 2012 and is quickly earning respect as one of the strongest college preparatory schools in Illinois.  8th graders apply each year to be included in the new 9th grade class.  Please visit the admissions page if you have questions about the admissions process.

930 students travel to the campus each day to study a rigorous college preparatory curriculum and to participate in the school's various athletic, artistic, and academic organizations.  We are proud to nurture talented scholar-athletes, scholar-artists, and scholar-leaders as our students prepare for success at colleges and universities across the country.  Five of our graduates from our first few graduating classes have been named Gates Millennium Scholars and are continuing their education at the University of Michigan, the University of Chicago, Oral Roberts University, Stanford University, and Dartmouth College. 

Our vision statement emphasizes our focus on this preparation for further study after high school. It reads: We envision that all students, through participating in a rigorous academic environment, will develop intellect and citizenship. We will incorporate critical thinking, intellectual inquiry, and research skills in addition to fostering social, emotional, and physical development.  Our website's news, pictures, and stories will provide you an introduction to how this vision statement comes alive in our classrooms, our service projects, and our athletic and artistic facilities.

Jeff Wright
Principal, King College Prep

Mr. Wright has served as the Principal of King College Prep since the summer of 2006. Prior to becoming Principal at King, Mr. Wright was the Assistant Principal at Jones College Prep and taught American History, Government, and World Affairs in Minnesota.  Mr. Wright earned his Bachelor's Degree at St. Olaf College and his Master's Degree at Harvard University.  He and his wife live in the North Kenwood neighborhood with their son, two blocks from King College Prep.
